In late May, members of Total Realty Group attended the International Council for Shopping Centers (ICSC) Convention in Las Vegas. The event lasted over the course of three days, and hosted over 25,000 individuals including commercial brokers, city ambassadors, and representatives from small to large franchises from across the country.
Many people understandably believe that “development is dwindling” and “no one wants to invest in real estate,” but ICSC proved otherwise. Cities like Costa Mesa (CA), Carson (CA), Chino (CA), Hammond (IN), Auburn (AL), Grapevine (TX), and more attended the convention all looking for opportunities of development. House-name corporations like Chipotle, Starbucks, H Mart, and Valvoline also attended all looking to expand their businesses into new territories. Brokers from various companies were busy putting deals together with one another as well.
The convention also included speeches from keynote speakers Erin Andrews of ESPN and Coach Mike “K” Krzyzewski of Duke University and the USA Basketball Men’s National Team. Erin Andrews spoke about the importance of preparedness and preparation at work. As she reported from the sideline of the 2023 NFC Championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the San Francisco 49ers, Brock Purdy suffered an elbow injury on the opening drive. Due to Andrews’ preparation of studying the players, coaches, and medical attendants, she was prepared to break the news on live TV, which was a highlight of her career.
Coach K spoke of his success both at Duke and at the USA Olympics coaching players like Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant. He specifically shared the three A’s of leadership: Agility, Adaptability, and Accountability. To have an agile team, leaders must balance team collaboration and individuality. Teams must adapt to unforeseen circumstances beyond one’s control and be accountable to their teammates and themselves for their mistakes and actions.
Overall, it was a full week of learning and making deals for Total Realty Group. Our team is thankful that we were able to attend and even meet brokers that we’ve collaborated with in the past. We hope that our learnings will let us better serve our clients.
